HORTICULTURAL GARDEN

ADAMA JARJU’S HORTICULTURAL GARDEN IS OFFICIALLY REGISTERED ON THE 4TH OF OCTOBER 2021 WITH SRN: 1313020258

The journey began in 2018 when my father fell ill. I asked him if I could help with the garden, and he agreed. That year, I decided to assist him in cultivating the garden. My father had been growing groundnuts alone, but I suggested that I plant cassava as well. He agreed, and after hiring people to plough the land for him, we grew groundnuts together with my younger sisters and brothers, while I focused on cultivating my cassava stems.

That year, my father harvested 10 bags of groundnuts, while my first cassava harvest earned me D12,000.00. I gave that money to my father as a token of appreciation.

From 2018 onwards, my father showed trust and confidence in me, and decided that I should take care of the garden, as he no longer had the strength to manage it. My passion for gardening grew stronger each year. Even after my father passed away on July 19, 2020, I continued to work hard, always wishing he were still here, but knowing deep down that he would be proud of me.

I started with just three banana plants, which were donated by a friend. I decided to expand by traveling to Kartong, Berending, and Gunjur to acquire more bananas. By 2020, I had a total of 52 banana plants. In 2021, I transplanted another 50 banana plants, bringing the total to 112. In 2022, I got a job as a football trainer in the CRR North region, and decided to hire someone to take care of the garden. Unfortunately, I later discovered that animals had entered and destroyed all my bananas. At first, I felt discouraged and uncertain of what to do, but I remembered all the efforts my father had made. I knew I could not give up. His memory gave me the strength, courage, and motivation to keep going.

My goal is to continue improving the garden and to create a garden that thrives. However, this can only be achieved with a proper water system. While I am committed to this goal, I need support to make it a reality. In addition to my horticultural pursuits, I also aspire to start a poultry farm, but lack the necessary support to do so.

Furthermore, I plan to introduce other businesses, including training programs for women and youth, advocacy programs, tie-dye workshops, animal rearing, and more.
